Administrative Oversight

Rector

The Rector of Sophia Divinity School is Presiding Bishop of the Catholic Apostolic Church of Antioch. The Rector oversees the seminary staff and students and the program of formation and education. The Rector, along with the staff, works to discern the maturity of vocation in each student. The Rector meets regularly with the Dean, Associate Dean and Sophia Divinity School Board, to ensure that there is a team approach to formation, by the proper sharing of knowledge and information.


The Rector as the Presiding Bishop celebrates the reception and conference of candidates to the Minor and Major orders upon the recommendation of the Dean in consultation with the Associate Dean. The Rector is the final authority in matters pertaining to the Sophia Divinity School. The Rector is guided by the Board of the Sophia Divinity School as they approve policies for the seminary.


Board

The Seminary is governed by the members of a Board of appointed by the Rector. The Board Members are clergy of the Apostolic Catholic Church of Antioch. They meet four times yearly and oversee the seminary. They also advise, develop, review and in some instances approve policies for the Seminary. Currently the Seminary Board consists of the Rector, Dean, and Advisors.


Dean

The Dean of the Seminary provides resources and support to all students as they develop towards the successful completion of their Degree Programs as they progress towards ordination to the priesthood. As a member of the formation team and the Dean will make recommendations to the Rector at the Minor and Major Orders prior to ordination. The Dean promotes

  • an academic climate within the seminary
  • keeping and tracking of academic records of students
  • maintains a working relationship with the Associate Dean
  • updates academic calendars and timetables
  • provides group intellectual formation sessions for each year level
  • provide advice to individual students as necessary
  • provides a regular briefing on the academic standard of students
  • attends Seminary Board meetings as required
  • the Dean is appointed by and is answerable to the Rector. 

Mentors

The task of the mentor is to guide and aid the seminarian’s journey. As such, the tasks of the mentor include the following.


  • Communication with the seminarian.
  • Evaluation of papers and assigned work
  • Resolution of challenges with course material
